Work agreements are one of the main elements that all good Agile teams need and use. For those of you who are not familiar with work agreements, they are nothing but agreed protocols established by the team to regulate their interactions and clarify expectations. They are different from the basic rules, which are more about compliance with the guidelines, but some of the basic rules are in line with what I call labour agreements. Work agreements can help align a team with expectations. It is the journey of a culturally diverse and distributed team that has learned to discover hidden obstacles to create a better working environment for itself. By drilling themselves, they reached a moment of “ha” that helped them align and work together, and they developed work arrangements that unite them. A work agreement is a short series of policies developed by the team for the team that define the team`s expectations. A well-written agreement should help create and strengthen a clear and shared understanding of all team members about what they recognize as good behaviour and for good communication. It is generally referred to as a single “work agreement,” but in reality it consists of many individual agreements for each subject or subject.
Each team has different nuances, and the contract should reflect that. Clarifying your team`s needs and objectives facilitates the creation of company contracts that have a positive impact. It also ensures that everyone is on the same side, which is expected at some point when the project is being carried out. Now that you have the basics, here are examples of some clauses that you could include in your teamwork agreement. Some of them are specific to agile teams. Work agreements are often used in the Agile context, but can be used by any team. Through the work agreement process, teams are given an increased awareness of the interaction between individuals. After a few rounds of proposals, if there is no consensus on a specific point, continue – you are not in a position to reach an agreement in this area at this time. Consider revisiting the issue when employment contracts are discussed next time. If you opt for a team work agreement, the most important thing is to make sure that your team is fully involved in the whole process. Make sure it is addressed to all “itchy” or uncomfortable topics and that the agreement is placed in a place that is easily accessible to the team.
The labour agreement should define team standards or disciplines as they relate here. They go on to say, “The purpose of the work agreement is to ensure that the Agile team has a responsibility to set expectations about how they work together and to improve their self-organization process.” All sprints should update the labour agreement, often through a retrospective review and a question such as: “Are these still our work agreements? What do we want to update? What are the areas that require new agreements? Here are some important things to keep in mind when creating your own teamwork contract.
